The tool that I chose to review was "Kerpoof." http://www.kerpoof.com/. This website is a creative website that allows the user to create movies, cards, drawings, pictures, and stories. There is also an activity where students can "spell a picture." The child chooses words to spell, and if they can spell it correctly, the image will appear on their picture. The tool was fairly easy to use, but it is very finicky. I had trouble getting the link to work all the time, and it was often slow to upload. I chose to use the “create a story” tool within this website for my example creation. A language arts teacher could ask the students to create a story using Kerpoof, and then publish it for their fellow classmates to see and read. The example of a possible student project that I created could be used in a third or fourth grade classroom. The story I created is actually based on the true story of the Wright brothers, but I added my own narrative. By giving the students very little parameters, they will have the creativity to make fun and interesting stories. Some parameters I would consider giving the students would be length and proper grammar usage. This is a good activity/tool for students to use while at home as well. They will enjoy using this fun and exciting tool in their free time for practice.
I would certainly recommend this tool to language arts educators. It really fosters creativity and word usage. It also offers a variety of tools that you can utilize as an educator for different purposes throughout the year. One of the cons of this tool is the limitation of characters, scenes, and props within the creation stations. Without joining their membership, the choice of scene and characters is very limited. You do need to create a user id to use the website, and the students will need parental approval to do so. There is a special membership for teachers, but I could not access it because I am not yet a teacher in a school district. This special membership allows for more control for the teacher and the ability to share creations within the class.
